Soren Zaiser

My Name is Soren Zaiser. I am currently a Kettering University Computer Science student (minoring in CE) in Michigan who spends a lot of time developing and tinkering with various electronics. I am currently employed as a computer science co-op at Essium, LLC where I assist in building new customers, where I write automation rules, code customer forms, and perform tests. Additionally, I volunteer for FIRST in Michigan for A/V, running and providing remote support to FiM FRC and FTC all over Michigan. Lastly, I am a lead Software Engineer at The Orange Alliance.

The Orange Alliance is a project to help make FIRST Tech Challenge match, event, and team information more accessible.
Some of the main project I support, manage, and develop:
TOA WebApp - A website built with Angular 6
TOA API - Public REST API built with Node.js, Express and MySQL database
TOA DataSync - An app built with Typescript to connect to the FTC Scoring System and allow live data uploads.
Along side these, we also use Google Firebase Functions, which I help develop.

I volunteer for FIRST in Michigan as A/V support. During the role, I run A/V for FRC and FTC events. When I'm not at an event, I remotely help other events setup and manage their A/V systems. This can be anything from setup, crashes, and various other things.

I was frustrated by the lack of a good pit display for our FRC Team (1322)'s Pit. I wrote this simple app to connect to The Blue Alliance and allow easy customizations for a creative pit display.

Whenever I walked into our school's auditorium, I would jokeingly say "Alexa, Turn on the hosue lights" of course, it would never work but I would always give myself a chuckle. This code, nicknamed "D-M-X-a," a combination of "DMX" and "Alexa." As in the name, it uses DMX to control specific fixtures in a DMX controlled environment. It uses an NodeMCU 1.0 ESP8266 and a Max485 Serial converter board. It acts as a DMX master device, and allows control over 1 DMX universe.
